Posted: November 9th, 2014

Keeping your skin healthy during colder weather takes a little extra effort, but after all, aren'tyou worth it? Skin care is an important part of our daily routine, and winter brings additional changes that are particularly hard on our delicate skin. Dropping temperatures and low humidity work together to bring about symptoms such as dry, itchy skin and other irritations. The following tips for winterizing your skin will ensure your skin stays soft and supple during these cold, harsh months.   When humidity levels are especially low, humidifiers are an excellent way to raise the moisture level in your home. Your skin will also benefit by keeping your body well hydrated: Water, hot tea and foods such as soups, fruits, vegetables and yogurt are ideal ways to boost hydration.  Making some adjustments to your daily skin care regimen can easily solve the problem and result in healthy skin all season long. Because your face can be especially susceptible to the harsh winter elements, you may need to adjust your facial cleansing routine to provide additional protection. For those who suffer from skin conditions such as dermatitis or eczema, the advice of a dermatologist is most beneficial to determine what changes need to be made.   Natural moisturizers can easily be applied throughout the day. Also, apply moisturizer immediately after bathing and at bedtime. Oil-based moisturizers such as almond oil, primrose oil and mineral oil work well to create a protective barrier on the skin. Keep moisturizers in your purse and at your work. Place a moisturizer in your night stand by your bed for convenience and a reminder to use it at bedtime for healthy skin.   One last important tip, Remember to always include sunscreen and lip balm to protect your skin from the sun's damaging UVB and UVA rays. Yes, sunscreen is very important in the winter too!
