Coffee's Effect on the Skin

Many people are diligent about their skincare regimen. They moisturize daily and make sure that they use the right skincare products. However, even if you moisturize your skin and take good care of it, you can still damage it by drinking coffee every day. There are many ways that coffee can damage your skin.

Dehydration

Coffee is a diuretic, which can cause you to get dehydrated. Dehydration can have a negative impact on your skin. It can cause collagen loss, which can lead to premature aging. It can also cause inflammation.

Makes You Crave Sweets

Coffee can cause you to crave sugary foods. It is a lot harder to avoid candy, baked goods, and pastries if you drink coffee. Sugar can trigger inflammation, which can cause acne. You can get a skin treatment at a day spa if you have acne.

Build up of Tannins

Tannins are chemicals that are found in coffee. Your body cannot really use tannins for anything. The liver filters out tannins. Unfortunately, many of the tannins do not get filtered out. That is why you may develop liver spots and other signs of premature aging. Fortunately, you can get rid of liver spots by getting a skincare treatment at a day spa.

Interfere With Mineral Absorption

It is a lot harder for your body to absorb minerals when you drink coffee. There was a study done that showed that drinking coffee after you eat can reduce iron absorption by up to 72 percent. It can also impair selenium and zinc absorption. Your skin needs the right amount of minerals in order to maintain optimal health. Furthermore, coffee can disrupt the growth of good bacteria and lead to the overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut. If you have gut issues, then you are more likely to have skin issues.
