DIY Body Lotion

Are you a beauty product junkie? Do you have a closet that looks like a shelf at Walgreens? Well I do. I cannot tell you how many different kinds of moisturizing lotions, creams, gels and sprays I have on my shelf. I find lotions with certain fragrances I like and natural moisturizes that I just have to try. Living in Florida seems to have dried my skin. I've changed my skin care regimen to include a facial daily moisturizer. I often use body wash with moisturizer in the shower but find I still need a body lotion as well. My feet tend to get really dry too, so I even found a nice foot cream with petroleum jelly that really helps. A skin care regimen is very important to have healthy skin. Treat yourself to a facial at a day spa at least once a month to maintain healthy skin. Without the proper moisture, it's easy for your skin to start looking dull, dry and tight. Living in the south where it is warm and very hot a good portion of the year, you must protect your skin with SPF sunscreen. So when you are looking to buy any type of moisturizer it's a good idea to buy one with sunscreen. The one thing I haven't tried yet is DIY body lotion. I've seen DIY soaps sold at Farmer's Markets and online, but only recently found out about lotions too. I love anything with either coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil, lavender, rose water or aloe. It's just my preference but these ingredients seem to heal my combination oily/dry skin. I found this easy DIY recipe to try at home:Nourishing Hand and Body Cream
Ingredients ¼ cup coconut oil 1/8 cup shea butter 1/8 cup cocoa butter 1 tbsp aloe vera juice 1 tbsp liquid oil of choice (like sweet almond, jojoba, etc.) 5-10 drops essential oils Directions- Heat shea butter, coconut oil, and cocoa butter over low heat until melted.
- Remove from heat.
- Add the aloe vera juice, liquid oil, and essential oils and stir to combine well.
- Store in a container of your choice. (small canning jars are nice)
