Eczema and Your Skin

What is Eczema?

Eczema is a type of skin condition that is caused by inflammation. It causes a person to develop an itchy skin rash. It is also known as atopic dermatitis. Other symptoms of eczema include sensitive skin, raised bumps and red, brownish patches on the skin.

Causes of Eczema

Healthy skin is designed to retain moisture. This moisture is designed to protect your skin from bacteria, allergens, and irritants. Eczema occurs when the skin is unable to provide this protection. Certain environmental irritants can also cause eczema. For example, if one is allergic to skin care products, then they are more likely to get eczema. Stress, dry skin, sweating, foods, certain fabrics, fragrance, and cigarettes can also trigger the condition.

Eczema Treatments

You will need to see a doctor if you suffer from eczema. Your doctor may recommend an over-the-counter treatment or prescription treatment. You should also identify the triggers and try to avoid them as much as possible.  A lukewarm shower may help you treat your skin condition. Hot showers can worsen this by drying out your skin. You will also need to moisturize your skin. A humidifier is another thing that can help with the skin. It helps keep moisture in the air.  An oatmeal bath can also help. You will need to pour uncooked oatmeal into your bath water and soak in it.

How a Spa Treatment can Help

A trip to the day spa can help with your skin issues. An esthetician, who is a trained skin care professional, can help you. Although they cannot prescribe any medications, they can still help you treat the condition. They can customize a facial for you, which will give you a smoother and healthier complexion.
