Exfoliation Keeps Skin Soft and Smooth in the Winter Time
Posted: December 5th, 2016
The cold, dry air of the winter season dries out skin and leaves it rough and ashen. One type of skincare regimen that keeps skin supple throughout the cold months is exfoliation. This is simply removing the very top layer of dead skin cells and allowing new, fresh skin cells to take their place. New, healthy skin also accepts moisturizers more readily, which also protects against the cold. Exfoliation can be done at home, or as part of a spa treatment at a day spa. There are several ways to exfoliate:
How It's Done
Exfoliation is done with brushes, sponge, towels or even bare hands. A person can exfoliate the skin on their face or on their whole body. However, this needs to be in a way that does not damage the skin. Harsh techniques need to be avoided, especially if the treatment is being done at home. Estheticians who exfoliate customers in a spa setting are trained to use more robust techniques such as chemical peels. A salt glow or salt scrub is a popular type of skincare. A salt scrub is often a spa treatment and is used on the whole body. Scented oil is mixed with sea salt. An esthetician rubs it into the client's skin, then rinses it off with a hand shower. A sugar scrub is a gentler type of skincare, using lovely rose and lavender oil which can be added to the scrub.
