Exfoliation: The Best Treatment for Clogged Pores

Posted: November 15th, 2013

Every day and all throughout the day, your skin is constantly sloughing off old skin cells to replace them with new ones while simultaneously producing small amounts of oil that keeps your skin looking soft and supple. While these processes are meant to make your face look glowing and youthful, sometimes things get backed up and you end up with pores clogged with dead skin cells, oil and bacteria. Clogged pores are not attractive, but they are easy to remedy with some simple exfoliation. Exfoliation is a simple and painless way to remove the skin cells, dirt and debris that cause clogged pores. There are two ways to exfoliate. One way is to use an exfoliating facial scrub like those sold in any drug store, grocery store or supercenter. These scrubs contain small scrubbing ingredients that gently scrub your pores to get the dirt out and cleansing ingredients that clean your face and wash the dirt, germs and skin cells away. Simply wet your face, wash with the scrub, rinse your face clean and dry with a clean towel. You can also make your own facial scrubs with any of the many recipes found online if you are so inclined. Alternately, you can exfoliate your face using a dry facial brush made specifically for facial exfoliation. Be sure the brush you use is made for the face, as brushes made for the body are generally too rough for the delicate skin found on your face. To exfoliate with a dry facial brush, begin by removing your makeup, washing and drying your face. Then, use the brush to gently brush your face. Work in a circular motion and spend the most time on the areas where you have the most clogged pores. Lastly, wash and dry your face, apply moisturizer and enjoy your new glowing and clog-free complexion.
