Healthy Habits for Better Hydration

Drinking the recommended amount of water a day is important to ensure our bodies stay hydrated at all times. To hit your goal, you'll first want to determine just how much liquid your body needs. Generally, you need to take your weight, cut it in half, and drink that many ounces of water per day. For example, a 150-pound woman should drink 75 ounces per day, and a 300-pound man should strive to hit 150 ounces in a day.
However, drinking the right amount is often easier said than done. Read on to learn three easy tips that will help you keep proper hydration as part of your health and wellness routine.
1. Don't wait until you are thirsty
To ensure proper hydration, don't wait until you feel thirsty. It's been proven that you are already slightly dehydrated by the time you notice your thirst. Try to stick to a certain schedule to stay hydrated, especially if you are an athlete. You'll also want to keep an eye on the color of your urine. Remember, the darker your urine is, the more dehydrated you are. Strive to drink enough that your urine is as clear as possible.
2. Don't mistake hunger for thirst
All too often men and women think that they are hungry when they are really just dehydrated. Instead of reaching for a snack, grab some cold H2O instead. This tip is also great for those interested in weight loss - fill up on water instead of food and you'll start to see the weight drop off. The more liquids you take in, the less room there will be for food and calories.
3. Healthy living includes hydration
Hydration is an important part of keeping your body functioning efficiently. When you are worried about skincare, drinking enough fluids will help keep your skin looking fresh and clear. Sometimes, drinking the right amount of fluids can do as much for your skin as spa treatments! Avoiding dehydration will also help with your energy levels and mood. Remember, the food that you eat can also help you stay hydrated, such as watermelon, cucumbers, and soups.
