Despite the fact that many people have a good skin care regimen, many people still have bad skin. Hormonal changes can cause skin problems. Knowing how the various hormones can affect your skin will help you adapt your routine accordingly.

Estrogen

Estrogen is a hormone that is essential for reproductive and sexual development. Your levels drop during perimenopause and menopause. This can cause skin dryness. It can also cause your skin to lose its plumpness and firmness.  There are some things that you can do to boost your estrogen levels naturally. Following a healthy diet and sleeping well can help you naturally balance your hormones.

Testosterone

Testosterone is a male hormone. Although it is a male hormone, women produce it in small amounts. However, a woman will have a higher amount of this hormone after she goes through menopause. Testosterone encourages your sebaceous gland to produce more oil. This can cause acne.  Fortunately, you can see an esthetician at a day spa if you have acne. Not only can an esthetician treat acne but they can also treat acne scars.

Cortisol

Cortisol is a stress hormone. It can have many negative effects on the skin. Acne is one of the many things that can happen to your skin if you have too much of this hormone in your body. The good news is that you can improve your skin by lowering your cortisol levels.  You will need to drink more water and eat less sugar during the day. High sugar intake and dehydration can raise your blood sugar levels. You can also exercise. Additionally, you will need to spend some time on self-care. Spending some time at the day spa is another way that you can de-stress.
