You pay close attention to your health and wellness. You use good skincare products. Still, some mornings you wake up with puffy eyes and barely recognize your own reflection. Your first step to a solution is identifying the cause.

Causes of Eye Puffiness

  • Lack of sleep
  • Dehydration
  • Fluid retention
  • Allergies and sinus problems
  • Heavy skincare or eye creams
  • Heredity
  • Crying
There are several tips and tricks you may want to try to eliminate the swelling under your eyes.

Get More Sleep

When you don't get enough rest your body has less time to remove accumulated toxins. If you are having trouble falling asleep, try setting a regular sleep schedule. Also, turn down the lights and turn off electronic devices at least one hour before bed increases your melatonin levels.

Increase Your Hydration Levels

Dehydration will cause your body to retain water causing fluid retention under your eyes. Be sure to drink 64 oz of fluids per day. Proper hydration is essential for health and wellness. Limit caffeine and alcohol to prevent dehydration.

Eye Creams

An eye cream or skincare products that are too heavy can cause undereye puffiness. Look for lightweight skincare solutions and an eye cream containing caffeine. Hyaluronic acid and licorice root are also beneficial. Keep your eye product in the refrigerator will increase its effectiveness.

Apply Cold

Apply cold compresses to your eyes. Whether you use chilled spoons, ice, cucumbers or a gel eye mask, a 10-minute chill may be all you need to reduce morning puffiness or puffy eyes from crying.

Treat Your Allergies

Try taking an antihistamine before bed. Itchy watery eyes will cause you to rub your eyes, which will make the puffiness worse. Eyedrops can also help. Puffy eyes are a nuisance but can be reduced. When you identify the cause of your undereye swelling, you can find a solution.
