No one wants to have cracked, chapped lips. For one, it's irritating and sometime painful. And no one wants to kiss dried, cracking lips. Fortunately there are measures you can take to ensure that your lips stay soft and healthy.
The key to having healthy lips is in the lip balm that you use. Try and find a balm that contains natural ingredients, like beeswax and petroleum. These will lock in moisture better than artificial ingredients. Also, make sure that the lip balm has a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 in it. Lips, just like the rest of your skin, need to be protected from the sun. Drinking a lot of water will also keep your lips from becoming chapped. Hydration is a key element in maintaining beautiful, smooth lips. You may want to lick your lips when they get chapped, but try to avoid this. Saliva actually will dry them out more. Instead, grab a glass of water!
There are several things you can do to treat your lips, just by using common household items. Lips need to be exfoliated. Exfoliating them will remove dead skin and make them smooth and soft. There are several ways to do this. You can exfoliate your lips by rubbing sugar on to them. You can also use a tooth brush. Simply apply a thick layer of Vaseline to your lips, then rub it in with a tooth brush. The toothbrush will remove dead skin and the Vaseline will make your lips soft. Do this right before bed so that the Vaseline stays on your lips and soaks in throughout the night. You can also use olive oil for this procedure, or any other type of natural moisturizer. When you wake up you will have beautiful, healthy, smooth lips!
