How to Keep Your Skin Healthy Looking During Colder Weather

Posted: January 20th, 2016

A change in season means more than a change in weather; for many, it may mean a new daily skin care regimen, especially when combating the dry, harsh airs of winter. With snowmen and holidays often comes also flaking skin and an uncomfortable tautness about our hands. Fortunately, there are measures that can be taken to maximize moisture and promote healthy skin, even in the face of January.   Moisturizing creams are a solution that may seem painfully obvious—but differentiating between water-based and oil-based moisturizers can make a world of difference. Oil-based lotions retain more moisture overall, and specific oils, such as avocado, mineral, and almond, won't clog up pores in the face.  The back can be a difficult place to maintain moisturized skin, since covering its entirety by yourself proves to be a challenge. A back facial, especially when practiced regularly, can not only ensure reduced dryness, but it can also alleviate acne and remove dead skin. Commonly overlooked as a component of skin care, back facial sessions revitalize skin in areas that receive the least amount of attention.   Indoor heating does not do dry skin any favors, either, pleasant a commodity as it is. The majority of heating systems use warm, dry air to regulate temperature within the home. This is why introducing a humidifier into the home can be a crucial asset to achieving healthy skin during cooler months.   Moisturizing is not the only important part of skin care. Your daily skin care regimen should include protective measures as well. Wearing gloves, for example, when facing the weather, protects your hands from potential cracking and peeling. Believe it or not, sunscreen is also a recommended precaution to take in the winter; sunlight during the snowy months can still cause considerable damage to your skin.
