Is a Gel Polish Manicure for You?

For some, a traditional manicure is not all that appealing. Sitting for an hour to have your nails buffed, rubbed, filed, then piled high with acrylic just does not seem all that great to some. There is an alternative however and that is a gel manicure. So what is a gel manicure exactly?   Gel manicure is the use of a gel polish, top, base and color coat, that is used to help strengthen the nails and can last up to a week or more without chipping or cracking like traditional polish. The process starts much like a normal manicure with the nails being buffed, clipped, cleaned and shaped. The technician will then apply a base coat that is going to help the color adhere and is going to help the gel polish to set.   If you are at a day spa, you might also get a massage of the hands before you go into the polish and you can also get a spa treatment to help soften the skin of the hands. After the base coat is applied you generally are going to put your hands under a UV light to cure the polish. The technician will then clean the polish and apply the color.   The color coat can be applied in a few different ways. With any day spa, you are going to be given the option of a gel polish or a gel powder polish. Powder polishes are fast and are great for building up the nail. Polish is going to be quick as well with a skilled technician. After you get the color this layer is cured as well then a top coat is added. If you are getting your manicure at a spa you might also want a massage or another spa treatment before you leave.
