It's Father's Day!

Father's Day is a time to honor one of the most important people in your life – your dad. On Father's Day, it is not uncommon to express well wishes to your grandfathers and uncles as well. Father's Day in America was instituted following the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd. Dodd attended a Mother's Day sermon in the early 1900s and was inspired to have a celebration recognized to honor a father's role in the family as well. Her father, William Smart, single-handedly raised her and five of her siblings after her mother's death in childbirth. Dodd's love and respect for her father spurred her on to realize her goal. Father's Day was first recognized by a Joint Resolution of Congress in 1965 and was officially established as a permanent national holiday by President Nixon in 1972. Although there are many ways to show your love and appreciation for your dad on this special day of the year, why not consider a day spa gift certificate? Day spas are veritable havens of relaxation and offer manicures, pedicures and hair waxing. Perhaps the most relaxing option at a day spa is massage therapy. Dads often carry a lot of stress with the responsibilities of the household and dealing with business at work. A massage can help ease tired and tense muscles, relieve back pain, decrease depression and improve blood circulation. Massage therapy has also been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins, the "feel-good" hormones of the body. These hormones also act as natural painkillers. Although a father is a key part of a child's successful upbringing, his role is often overlooked or is not fully appreciated. Show dad your appreciation this Father's Day with the gift of a day spa certificate, a gift that both you and he will remember with fondness.
