Match Foundation Color to Your Skin Tone of the Season

Choose the Right Shade of Foundation To Match Your Skin This Season!

If you live in a location with many changes throughout the season, you know your skin tone changes through the year as well. Your skincare routine may require changing up your makeup to match your complexion during the warmer and cooler months. Here's a quick guide to choosing the right shade of foundation color so you can look and feel your best.

Three Tips For Foundation Matching

1. Are you warm or cool?

Warmer skin tones are generally golden while cooler complexions appear pink, especially in colder weather. Though your undertones don't change, they may get paler in the winter and tan more in the summer. Look to a weatherproof foundation with SPF for warmer months and more moisture for the colder days of the year.

2. Consider consulting an expert

A trained esthetician at a day spa can tell you if your skin is likely to need a more moisturizing foundation or a matte finish due to your complexion during the season. The right foundation needs a smooth face so it doesn't melt due to the sun or flake when the air is dry and cold. A spa treatment can prepare you for the seasons.

3. Test makeup first if you can

Many beauty retailers allow you to swab foundation on your wrist to see if it's a match or even offer makeovers to find the right product. Depending on the coverage you want in a foundation, a lightweight adjustable makeup cream may be able to match your shade year round but a heavier product may need to be switched by the season.  When you know your skin tone, you'll know how to find the right foundation for the seasons. Try and see what works!
