Receiving a massage is a relaxing experience but it may not be relaxing for you if you are not properly prepared. Some people become nervous when they go to the massage parlor and they are unsure of what to do. This can cause you to stress and worry about everything. When going to get a massage, it is important that you make sure you are completely comfortable and ready to go before actually going. This will make your time more enjoyable and you will actually be able to clear your mind and enjoy the massage. That is why you are there after all, right? There are multiple types of massages that you can have performed and depending on your personal preference, you may like one over the other. One of the most common types of massages for relaxation is an aromatherapy massage. This type of massage will use essential oils to help relax your body and your mind. You can choose from the different aromatherapy oils that the spa has and pick the one that relaxes you most. As you enjoy your massage, you will be whisked away to a heavenly place through the smells of the oil and the relaxing strokes from your therapist. Another common choice is a deep tissue massage. This type of massage will target areas of your body that you feel need extra work. These areas may be tight or you may be experiencing limited mobility in the area. The massage therapist will focus on your sore spots and rub out any knots that you have in your muscles. No matter the type of massage that you are having performed, you will want to make sure that you keep these massage tips in mind as they will help you relax and feel more comfortable.

1. Ask Questions

If you are uncomfortable or you are not sure about something, ask away. Your therapist will appreciate the questions and it will help you relax as well.

2. Be There Early

One way to help you relax is to arrive at the spa facility early. This will allow you to take advantage of the relaxing tools that are available to you. You won't feel rushed when you arrive early either. Once you get to the spa facility, you can sit down and relax in the quiet waiting room and listen to the tranquil music and fountains. You can also spend time picking out the oils you want used during your aromatherapy massage. Some facilities have additional spa amenities and steam rooms that will allow you relax before and after the massage itself.

3. Dress for the Occasion

One thing that many people do not think about doing is shaving their legs and armpits before going to receive their massage. This can make you feel self-conscious and you will be worried throughout the whole massage. This can cause you to feel miserable the whole time and the massage will not be enjoyable for you. Try and shave the night before so that your legs and armpits are still freshly shaven but they are not prone to burning or rash. You will also want to make sure that you wear appropriate clothing to your massage as well. Wear something you feel comfortable in and remember to wear garments that you do not mind disrobing in either. If you think you may be self-conscious, don't wear it. Also, if you are not comfortable taking off all of your clothing for the massage, accommodations can be made and you can leave your undergarments on.

4. Pamper Yourself

Before the massage, make sure to drink plenty of water. This will help flush out any toxins in your body. You will want to make sure that you are breathing deeply throughout the massage for ultimate relaxation. After the massage, drink more water and relax before going home. Indulge in a pedicure or even just relax in the quiet room with tranquil music. These tips for a massage will help you feel as comfortable as you can. Someone who is self-conscious or worried about what is going on or what they are wearing will not enjoy their massage. This is a time for you and you should be able to let go and experience a massage for all that it is.
