Range of Motion Healing with Massage Therapy

Navigating through life while battling with a range of motion issues is very challenging. Common causes of the limited range of motion (ROM) are a pain, muscle stiffness or fractures, bone dislocations, arthritis, and breast cancer procedures. Unfortunately, Epsom salt baths and applying hot or cold compresses at home can only do so much and will likely not restore your body to its ideal state.    Massage therapy is one of the most effective measures to correct any difficulties resulting from a limited range of motion - and best of all, little work is required from the patient. A licensed massage therapist at the day spa will assist you in improving your flexibility, reducing any pain or discomfort, and aid in preventing you from further injury while providing optimal relaxation.   One of the main reasons as to why many people are prone to injury is because they lack flexibility, and they may not be able to do much to combat this situation themselves. This is because we often have "knots" or "trigger points" within our muscles which usually cause stiffness and aching. During a massage therapy session, your therapist will examine your body and release the pressure surrounding those sensitive points.    Those with joint issues like arthritis will also benefit from knowing that massage therapy improves shoulder range of motion. Recent studies found that there were immense improvements with the flexion and abduction measures within the shoulders after about five sessions at 45 minutes.

Breast Cancer Patients

Many breast cancer patients often experience pain and discomfort with the range of motion after surgery. Following a surgery such as a mastectomy, breast biopsy or lymph node removal, one experiences weakness and limited range of motion within the shoulders and arms. Your licensed massage therapist will work to retrain your muscles and limbs while being attentive to any possible discomforts that you may be experiencing.    Restoring your range of motion may be easier than you think. Massage therapy is a safe, hands-on approach to your recovery while providing a state of "zen" and relaxation!
