Having healthy feet is about more than just looking good for sandals and other open toed shoes. Healthy feet are also important as they are less likely to develop problems such as blisters, dry skin and other conditions that can make walking unpleasant. While the periodic trip to the day spa for a pedicure and skin treatment is always a good idea, there are a number of foot care products that people can use at home without having to visit the spa.

Skin Moisturizing

Feet can have a hard life being exposed to a harsh environment whether a person walks in shoes or in bare feet. The constant pressure on the feet can lead to calluses and other problems. However, one of the primary benefits of skin moisturizing is the reduced likelihood of developing skin problems. There are a number of great moisturizers on the market, including those designed specifically for feet, that people should use everyday.

Dry Skin Cream

With even regular use of healthy foot care products, feet will occasionally dry out and skin will crack. When this occurs, it is important for this to be treated in order to speed healing and prevent the problem from becoming worse. Special skin care ointments and creams are available to treat dry, cracked skin. These skin care products are best used at night as they do not dry as quickly as most lotions or moisturizers.

Nail Care Products

One of the most common foot problems for those both young and old is unhealthy toe nails, from ingrown nails to fungus's, the problems that can occur to the nails is almost limitless. However, by keeping nails clean, using a quality pair of clippers and a file or pumice stone to smooth the cut nails, most problems can be avoided. A cuticle cream can also be used to protect the cuticles and provide nutrients to the nails.
