To Wax or Sugar? You Decide

Sugaring Hair Removal: a body hair removal technique that is taking the cosmetic world by storm. While your initial thought may have been that this is something you do to your coffee, sugaring is actually an advanced method of hair removal through the use of exfoliation.

What is Sugaring Hair Removal?

With roots as an ancient Middle-Eastern practice, sugaring uses a paste or gel that is derived from natural ingredients like honey and sugar to remove the hair follicle from the root. This process provides a method to remove unwanted hair from targeted areas with results that can last up to six weeks. While sugaring can be done at home, it is also a popular spa treatment option. Over time, sugaring can cause damage to the hair follicle prohibiting growth for an extended period of time. Thus, temporary results often become permanent.

What is Waxing?

Contrary to sugaring, waxing hair removal actually uses a resin that adheres to the hair follicle. When the warm wax cools down, it then locks onto the hair. Quickly removing the cooled resin forcefully removes the follicle from the skin. The resulting hair loss from waxing hair removal lasts approximately the same amount of time as that of sugaring. However, many day spa clients claim that the pain associated with waxing is more noticeable than what occurs with sugaring techniques.

Which One Do I Choose?

Though both options are effective and affordable hair removing techniques, waxing is a preferable day spa treatment while sugaring can be done at home. Both hair removal methods are likely available at your local day spa and are similar in cost, pain levels, and procedure time. Non-sensitive areas typically endure waxing better, and sugaring is typically used for more sensitive areas.
