Treatment for Dark Under Eye Circles

There are several causes for dark circles including late nights, aging and excessive pigmentation in that area of the skin. While increasing sleep and taking good care of the delicate skin around the eyes can help lessen the appearance of these circles, there may be no way to completely prevent or eliminate them in some people. Some skin types are more prone to these dark circles. Certain habits, like smoking or spending excessive amounts of time in the sun may also increase your risk of noticeable dark circles under the eyes. One of the easiest and safest ways to deal with dark circles is with makeup. There are many techniques to use including using a concealer to hide the dark circles themselves or bright shadows to lighten the appearance of the rest of the eye area. A light application of both concealer and a brighter, bolder eyeshadow may work wonders in eliminating these circles and making one appear younger and more alert in the process. Eye creams which contain caffeine can also be used. These creams work by constricting the blood vessels that run just under the skin. Another type of cream to consider is the skin lightening cream. These contain ingredients which will reduce the pigmentation in the skin giving it a lighter appearance. Keep in mind that these can sometimes be too strong for people with sensitive skin. These creams may also cause lightening in other areas of the face resulting in a blotchy complexion. Great care should be used when trying these creams, especially if you are prone to allergies, have sensitive skin or have had negative reactions to skin care products in the past. A final option for dark circles under the eyes is the intense pulse light procedure, often referred to as IPL. Done in four appointments, these treatments are fairly expensive and can cause discomfort to outright pain.
