Very A-Peeling!

After a long week at work, there is nothing quite like a day at the
spa. Spa treatments are typically very relaxing; they can make you feel refreshed and renewed. Especially where skin care is concerned, skin treatments can make a world of difference in the way you look and feel about your skin and your overall appearance. Great skin can boost your self-confidence tremendously.
Skin therapy can include different types of facials, facial massage and peels. Two such peels are glycolic peels and lactic peels. Here is what you need to know about both:
Glycolic Peels
Glycolic
peels are an excellent and non-surgical way to rejuvenate your skin. Glycolic peels are a chemically based serum that is applied to your face, neck and decolletage to remove, or exfoliate the outermost layers of your skin. A glycolic peel is the most gentle of the chemical peels used by dermatologists, plastic surgeons or estheticians. This type of peel helps to reveal smoother, clearer and younger looking skin.
Lactic Peels
A lactic peel is made from the acids in milk products such as yogurt, buttermilk or sour cream. It is a very mild peel. The lactic acid that the peel is formulated with is also produced by our bodies naturally at the cellular level which makes this a very safe peel. The lactic acid peels are especially good for people with more sensitive skin or for first time peel users. These peels do not produce the same redness, irritation or discomfort that many other peels do. Recovery time for a lactic peel is very quick as it works only on the very top layer of skin. Some of the conditions that can be approved with a lactic peel are mild wrinkles, sun damaged skin, mild acne scars, brown spots and age spots. Although there are lactic peels that you can do at home, it is recommended that you have yours done at a spa by a trained esthetician to reduce your risk of over aggressive application.
