Veterans Day is a public holiday that is observed on November 11. Veteran's Day celebrations are held to honor people who have served in the military. The reason that Veterans' Day is celebrated on November 11th is that of World War II. The war ended the 11th hour of the 11th month and the 11th day of the year. If November 11 happens to fall on a Saturday or Sunday, then it may be observed the following Friday or Monday. In 2017, November 11 falls on a Saturday. Veteran's Day will be observed the Friday before.Veteran's Day has been observed since 1954. It is important to note that Veteran's Day is not the same as Armed Forces Day. Armed Forces Day honors people who are currently serving in the military. The meaning of Veteran's Day is understood by most. The purpose of Veteran's Day is to honor people who have put their lives on the line for the country.  Veteran's Day is a federal holiday, so many schools and workplaces are closed. The meaning of Veteran's Day is a lot more than just a day off from work and school. It is time for people to reflect on the sacrifices that people have made.
