What an Esthetician Looks for During Skin Analysis

Posted: September 30th, 2019

Before an esthetician can give you a facial, she must analyze your skin. To do this, she will put your face under a special bright light that helps her see your skin condition and skin signs associated with your skin type. Here's what an esthetician looks for during a skin analysis:   Dry Skin - Dull looking skin with pores that are barely visible and skin that feels rough. Chapped and red skin when it's cold outside is other signs of dry skin.   Oily Skin - Thick skin with larger than normal pores, blackheads, and sometimes pimples. A film of oil on the skin may be evident as well.   Acne – Oily skin with a shine to it, pimples, pores impacted with oil and debris, blackheads, and whiteheads. If acne is suspected, there may be lumps on the skin, too, and they may be cysts.  Combination Skin – Areas of the skin that are dry and areas that are oily. The forehead, nose, and chin usually have enlarged pores and blackheads and may break out and have acne. The remainder of the face and the neck may be flaky and dry.   Mature Skin – Crepy skin, saggy skin, and wrinkled skin. Mature skin is usually dry, but not always.   Damaged Skin – Exaggerated lines as well as wrinkles, dark spots, and roughness. The skin may be uneven in tone and may appear old before its time.   Rosacea - Intermittent redness in the cheek, nose, chin, and forehead area. Dilated blood vessels may be evident, and there may be bumps and pustules on the skin.   A skin analysis is essential if you go for a facial spa treatment. It will help your esthetician choose the best treatment procedure and products for you. When she's done, you will see an improvement in your skin.
